Sei is built on the Cosmos SDK and uses Tendermint BFT consensus, which provides fast finality and reliable block production. On top of that Sei adds parallel execution and order matching, so transactions that do not interfere with each other can be processed simultaneously. Validators stake SEI to validate blocks and secure the network.

Sei v2 introduced a hybrid execution environment that supports both CosmWasm and EVM smart contracts. This lets developers reuse Solidity contracts from Ethereum while still benefiting from Sei-specific optimisations.
