Polkadot is a Layer 0 network designed to connect different blockchains so they can exchange data and value. Polkadot uses Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS). Validators stake DOT to produce blocks on the Relay Chain, while nominators choose which validators they want to back by staking their own DOT alongside. The Relay Chain then validates transactions taking place on parallel parachains, keeping the network scalable.
