Monad (MON): what you need to know

Read all about Monad here

What is Monad?

Monad is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain optimised for very high throughput. The network aims to combine the developer experience of Ethereum with the scalability of high-performance chains. The native token MON is used for staking, transaction fees and governance.

How does Monad work?

Monad uses its own consensus mechanism, MonadBFT, combined with parallel execution of transactions. This lets the network process many more transactions per second than a sequential EVM, without developers having to change their smart contracts. Validators stake MON to secure and validate the network.

The token

  • Ticker: MON

  • Category: Layer 1 / High-performance

  • Blockchain: Monad

  • Protocol: MonadBFT (Proof of Stake) met parallelle execution

  • Year of launch: 2025

The technology behind Monad

The Monad architecture separates consensus, execution and storage into distinct pipelines that can run in parallel. The blockchain is fully EVM-equivalent and supports the same tooling, smart contracts and infrastructure as Ethereum. Monad also uses a custom database (MonadDB) to speed up state access.

The Monad ecosystem

The Monad ecosystem is growing around DeFi, gaming and infrastructure projects that benefit from the high throughput. Because Monad is EVM-compatible, many existing Ethereum applications can be ported relatively easily. Monad Foundation and Monad Labs support developers through grants and programmes.

Who founded Monad?

Monad was founded by Keone Hon, James Hunsaker and Eunice Giarta, former engineers at Jump Trading. The project raised significant funding from investors including Paradigm and launched its mainnet in 2025 after an extended testnet phase.
