Hedera uses the hashgraph consensus algorithm, an asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerant (aBFT) variant of Proof-of-Stake. Validator nodes gossip transactions to each other extremely fast and virtually vote on their order, without classic block formation. This enables very high throughput and fast finality.
