Create a Chainlink wallet

You use a Chainlink wallet to receive, store and send crypto. Creating a wallet is free and usually only takes a few minutes.

What is a Chainlink wallet?

You can compare a wallet with a digital keyring. Through the wallet you prove you have access to a specific address on the network. With it you can receive, store and send Chainlink.

Your crypto is not literally "in" the wallet. All transactions and balances are kept on the Chainlink blockchain. The wallet contains the data that lets you approve transactions.

For almost every wallet, the same basic terms matter.

Term

What it means

Public key

The public address where you receive Chainlink. You can share it safely with others.

Private key

The secret key that gives you access to your wallet. Never share this with anyone.

Seed phrase

A series of 12 or 24 words that lets you fully restore your wallet.

Network fee

The transaction cost you pay to have a transaction processed on the network.

Some networks have extra features or requirements, such as tags, memos or minimum wallet reserves. Always check carefully which rules apply for Chainlink.

How do I manage my Chainlink?

When you buy or receive Chainlink, it is recorded on the blockchain. Your wallet gives you access to that address through cryptographic keys.

That also means you are responsible for security. Lose access to your wallet and your backup? You usually cannot reach your crypto any more.

When sending transactions you often pay a small network fee. The amount differs per blockchain and can change depending on how busy the network is.

Which Chainlink wallet should I choose?

Different types of wallets are available. Which one suits you best mainly depends on how much crypto you store and how actively you use your wallet.

Our recommendation

Just getting started with crypto? A mobile wallet is usually the easiest choice. Use Chainlink more often or want more control? A desktop or browser wallet often offers extra possibilities. Want to store larger amounts safely or keep your crypto for the long term? Then choose a hardware wallet. Many users combine multiple wallets: one for daily use and one for safe storage.

Create and set up a Chainlink wallet

Create a mobile wallet

Want to have access to your crypto at all times? Download a wallet app from the official App Store or Google Play. During setup you create a new wallet. You then receive a seed phrase of 12 or 24 words. Write them on paper right away and store them safely. After installation you can immediately receive and send Chainlink.

Receive and send Chainlink

Want to receive Chainlink? Open your wallet and choose "Receive". Then copy your wallet address and share it with the sender.

Want to send Chainlink? Choose "Send", paste the recipient's address and check all details carefully before confirming. A blockchain transaction is final and cannot be reversed.

Always check

  • the wallet address
  • the network
  • any memos or tags
  • the transaction fee

Always copy and paste addresses instead of typing them by hand. That way you avoid mistakes.

Watch out with hardware wallets

Using a hardware wallet? Also verify the receiving address on the screen of the device itself. Malware can change addresses in your browser or app.

How do you secure your wallet?

Good security is essential when you manage crypto yourself. A few simple measures considerably reduce the risk of loss or theft.

  • Use a strong password: choose a unique password or PIN that is hard to guess.
  • Keep your seed phrase offline: always write your recovery phrase by hand on paper. Never store it in the cloud, a notes app or your inbox.
  • Use two-factor authentication (2FA): use an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Authy for extra security.
  • Only download official software: use only wallets from trustworthy providers and download software solely through official websites or app stores.
  • Check addresses carefully: always check the receiving address before confirming a transaction.
  • Use a hardware wallet for larger amounts: for long-term storage or larger investments, a hardware wallet offers the most protection.

Tip: always make a backup of your wallet

When creating your wallet, you usually see these words just once. Take the time right away to note them down properly.

Important rules for your seed phrase

  • Write the words on paper in the correct order.
  • Do not take a screenshot or digital copy.
  • Never store your seed phrase online.
  • Share your seed phrase with no one.
  • Keep multiple physical backups in safe locations.
  • Consider a metal backup for extra protection against fire or water damage.

Lost only your device? You can restore your wallet with your seed phrase. Lost both your device and your seed phrase? Then your crypto is usually permanently unreachable.
